We
decided to break this down three ways. First we'll
cover stuff we do as a "family". Then Mark
will have his section. Then Lisa will cover her hobbies
and interests.
Family
This
one may sound a little corny, but one of our main
hobbies is working hard on being the best parents
for Jennifer that we can be. Maybe it is easier only
having one child to focus on, but we really enjoy
the challenge of doing it to the best of our abilities.
We
all love to ski. Most of our destinations are in California.
Lake Tahoe is a favorite. Mammoth Mountain is Mark's
favorite. We hit the local slopes when we can. Jennifer
prefers snow boarding and Mark is determined to try
it. His knees are pretty bad...but, he'll do it anyway.
Lisa
and Mark have been scuba diving for a long time. Jennifer
is learning during the summer of 2003. We would send
you to Scuba
Dan if you are interested in learning to scuba
dive.
We
love the movies. You could say we fall into the 'fanatical'
category. Lisa used to keep a detailed list of every
movie we saw. We ended just under 100 movies in 1999,
so we made a goal of 100 for 2000. The last week was
very hectic (and fun) and we made it to 102. We topped
that with 110 in 2001. Jennifer has gotten to the
point were she sees a lot with her friends, so we
have slowed way down. We don't like paying $10 a ticket
either. We still watch quite a lot using one of the
best services we've ever found. Check out Netflix,
you'll love it.
OK,
Mark's Turn
I've
been a pretty heavy reader for the last 20 years or
so. Amazon.com loves me. I'll go through a few years
where I'll read about 50 books a year. Lately, it's
been closer to 25 a year. I hardly ever read fiction.
It's mostly non-fiction. Marketing, investing, science
(physics and math) and computer programming. Lately,
I've been reading a lot of books about building web
sites. Not the most fun, but necessary. In my feeble
attempt to be 'cultured', I read a couple of the classics
a year, so I do get some fiction reading in there.
I love Eugene O'Neill and Tennessee Williams' plays
are great. "Night of the Iguana" is my favorite.
Being
a sports fanatic, I love the challenge of golf. I
don't spend enough time at it. I think I got as low
as a 15 handicap. It's higher now. Work gets in the
way. Oh well. I'm a happy long time member of the
Knollwood
Men's Golf Club. We have two tournaments a month.
Lots of fun and great company. If you see me on the
links, wave. You'll be safe if you stand in the middle
of the fairway.
I
would qualify as a full fledged computer geek. You've
heard of the 'leading edge'. There is a place on the
leading edge of the leading edge. That's called the
"bleeding edge". I keep telling Lisa that
I've had it and I'm not going there again. Six months
later, I'm back out on the bleeding edge. I build
many of our machines. I've been working on using voice
commands to do everything on the computer. That still
hasn't worked to my satisfaction. Oh well. I find
great deals on computer stuff at Pricewatch.
And I get a fair amount of stuff on Ebay.
That's
about it. I'm turning this page over to Lisa now.
Lisa's
stuff
Some
of the things that I really enjoy doing (although
like most of us, I don’t have enough time to
do them) are making quilts, photography and traveling.
Most of the traveling I did before Jennifer was born
when I was a corporate travel agent for Paramount
Studios. Yes, sometimes we did have access to some
pretty nice trips!
The photography bug gets satisfied when Mark and I
do the “housewarming parties” for the
buyers we help find homes. I love to take the casual
family portraits of the people who come by and I send
them out with our “thank you’s”
for coming to the open house.
The
quilting is what I seem to be able to squeeze in right
now and we have some really great quilt shops in the
San Fernando Valley and the Conejo Valley. Here are
their addresses and if they are on the internet, the
link to their web sites.
