Calabasas
is a large (population approx. 30,000) incorporated
city on the western edge of the San Fernando Valley.
It is mostly a master planned community with many
gate guarded areas. Construction is still under way
on a few of the developments. Quite a few of the homes
are located in the hills and many of the properties
have good city or canyon views.
Freeway
access to the 101 Freeway is excellent. The commute
is moderate. Shopping is excellent with the very popular
"The Commons" as an excellent destination
for fine dining or catching a movie. There are many
other fine shops in this center.
A
few blocks away is Calabasas "Old Town"
with a small town feel. The famous "Sagebrush
Cantina" is at one end of Old Town. The weekends
will almost always find the parking lot full of exotic
motorcycles and is great fun to see who's riding what.
You will also find the historic Leonis Adobe in Old
Town. And, at the end of Old Town, you will find the
Calabasas Creek Park, which is a very serene place
to spend a few minutes. There is a highly regarded
Farmer's Market in Old Town each Saturday from 8:00
am to 1:00 pm.
The
housing is mostly newer and upper end. There is a
private man-made lake with homes fronting the north
side and luxury townhomes fronting the south side.
It is a beautiful 2 mile walk around the manicured
lake. This is not the kind of lake you would expect
to find in nature, but it is very pretty. One of our
favorite spots.
Calabasas
is highly desired for being the easternmost city in
the prized Las Virgenes School District.
