Pacoima
is located on the northeastern edge of the San Fernando
Valley. It sides the 5 freeway and straddles the 118
freeway.
It
was originally an agricultural center with most of
the fields long ago turned into housing. Recreation
is close by, with the Hansen Dam Park and Hansen Dam
public golf course being popular destinations. Pacoima
is also home to Whitman Airport, a small private aircraft
airport.
There
are some industrial complexes close by that provide
some jobs and there is a fair amount of retail activity
also providing employment. The commute is reasonable.
The 210 Freeway is very close and provides a rapid
commute into Pasadena, if needed.
The
housing is mostly middle to lower end, entry level
homes. Most of the houses are older for the Valley,
having been built in the 1950's. There are a few rough
spots, so care should be taken. These are apparent
when you are in the area. There are also many well
cared for neighborhoods.
