If
you can consider neighboring Encino the "King"
of the San Fernando Valley, it would seem appropriate
to think of Tarzana as the "Crown Prince".
Interestingly, the name, Tarzana, is named after the
character Tarzan in a tribute to the influence the
author, Edgar Rice Burroughs, had on his community.
He owned a large piece of land just south of Ventura
Blvd. and east of Reseda Blvd.
Tarzana
is located just west of Encino and just east of Woodland
Hills along the 101 freeway. It backs up to the Santa
Monica mountains.
Ventura
Boulevard runs through this community and there is
always great shopping and dining along that venue.
The
housing in this area is mostly upper middle to upper
level with many Estate size homes. There are a few
areas of middle to lower middle level housing, but
there has been a trend over the last 15 years to rebuild
these houses into larger homes. This trend is likely
to continue.
As
in other Ventura Boulevard communities, being "South
of the Boulevard is the desired address. And, the
further South, the more likely it is you will be in
the foothills. Many of these properties have nice
city or canyon views and offer desirable privacy.
There are some attractive townhome projects in this
area, but not many.
Employment
can be found in the large Tarzana Regional Medical
Center located here. Commuting out of the immediate
area is easy via the 101 freeway. The freeways are
usually a little slow right in this area, but often
clear up quickly, either eastbound or westbound.
