I've (Mark) been a reader for a long time. During that time I've come across a lot of good books, a few that were OK, and some that I wished I'd had my money back on. So, I thought I'd put the books I've read here with a little review of them. Some of them are pretty old. Some are classics. Some are new. You can click on the image or title of the book and be taken right to Amazon.com to read more or purchase them. If you purchase them through my link I make a few cents, and I would highly appreciate that. Hopefully, you will find this resource valuable.

 Remarks

Millionaire Real Estate Agent

Gary Keller

Best recent book I've found. Lays out a plan I was trying to do on my own. Also, check out their web site. The weekly conference calls (free at the time of writing) are great!

How to Multiply Your Real Estate Success

Monica Reynolds

Not as helpful as I had hoped. But there were enough things here that I can make good money with some of the ideas.

Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion

Robert Caldini

You know, at Amazon.com, they offer free shipping if your order is over $25.00 (at the time of this writing). Well, I'm never going to be under that limit, so sometimes I have to throw in an outlier. This was one of those. Oops. It should have been a primary purchase. This was a really good book. One I will reread soon. The title kind of tells about the book, and I wasn't disappointed. It has helped shape my presentation material.

Be Yourself

John Buffini

If you ever had an interest in why you are the way you are, this book gives good insight and feedback. It works from the idea that you should identify your natural abilities and work with them to create the most effective you. He also has help for the challenges that we all face.

The Millionaire Mind

Dr. Thomas Stanley

This is considered to be Stanley's better book. He has several. He has studied Millionaires for a very long time and gives a very interesting profile. I think some of his specific recommendations regarding Real Estate are wrong. They just seem naive, but then again, he's not in the RE business.

The E-Myth

Michael Gerber

I'm a big fan of Gerber. I've hired his consulting company in the past. And I think what he has to say is spot on, especially for Real Estate salespeople. This is now dated. I'll keep my copy forever (and let the kids toss it ) Get the E-Myth Revisited.

The E-Myth Revisited

Michael Gerber

Big surprise, Real Estate sales is changing. This book will add some good perspective and give a lot of good advice to building a business that has a future. Millionaire Real Estate Agent would be the better start along the lines of this book. (working "on" your business, instead of working "in" your business)

The E-Myth Manager

Michael Gerber

This book left me cold. Maybe, I just didn't get it. It is written as a story of a series of conversations between Gerber and one of his employee managers. That style bugs me. But, it is Gerber, so it can't be all bad.

Real Estate Rainmaker

Dan Gooder Richard

Wow, the reviews at Amazon.com were roundly bad. And I gave it 5 stars. Hmmm. I'll stick with my rating. The book helped me define some important aspects of several of our marketing programs. I refer back to it for some stats regularly. Some of the reviews say it is one long commercial. Maybe, so. And I'd don't think the Gooder stuff is a good value from the site. It's just too expensive for what you get, IMHO.

Your First Year in Real Estate

Dirk Zeller

After having been retired for 5 years, I thought this would be a good book to get back to the basics. It is that. For me, it just went a little too far back to the basics. That's never a real bad thing, however, this book just didn't "speak" to me. If you are newer, then I'd recommend it. Past a year in the business, get Millionaire REal Estate Agent, above.

Landlording

Leigh Robinson

This has long been considered the bible for Landlording. It still holds up. There are many other Property Management books that have come out, but this one still leads the pack. Common sense type stuff. Stuff that will allow you to sleep at night (at least a little bit easier) Very thorough and well put together.

Secrets of Closing the Sale

Zig Zigler

I love Zig. I especially love listening to him speak. He is prolific and has walked his talk, which is always nice. There isn't much here that you can't find elsewhere, but where do you thing they got their material. I think it always pay to honor the Masters in endeavors of my pursuit. This definitely falls in that category.

Wishcraft: How to Get What You Really Want

Barbara Sher

This is, far and away, the best book on Goal Setting that I have ever read. And I've read a lot on the subject. Not much marketing went into the book, so I never saw it that widely read. But, if you want to do anything (R.E. related or not) this book will help you do it easier and more effectively. Should be required reading from 11th grade on, IMNSHO.

Smart Trust Deed Investment in California

George Coats

This is specific to California (sorry) and out of print (sorry, again). If you come across a used copy, grab it. It is far and away considered the bible on Trust Deed investing. Even used copies go for a lot of money. Good luck finding one.

How to Master the Art of Selling

Tom Hopkins

I've worn out my copy. This was my favorite book regarding 'sales'. Still near the top of my list. His other books were a mere shadow of this book. His boot camps are still highly regarded, so, it's easy to say his material has withstood the test of time.

How to Develop a 6 Figure Income in Real Estate

Mike Ferry

This book was written before Mike Ferry became THE Mike Ferry. You have to admire what he has done in this business, even if it isn't suited to your style. The Mike Ferry Organization has made a WHOLE lot of money for a whole lot of agents. The book... well. I wasn't all that impressed. The meat of the method is in the Organization, not the book.

Winning Through Intimidation

Robert Ringer

Isn't that a terrible title? I'm sure that title has turned off a lot of people. And that is too bad. The title is almost like a joke. The book is really about being a top notch, thoroughly prepared professional. This is an excellent read!

Million Dollar Habits

Robert Ringer

This is Ringer's second book. Guess he found writing books to be a lucrative, pleasant pastime. The ratings on Amazon have this at 5 stars. It's good, but not as meaty as the one mentioned above.

The Magic of Getting What You Want

David Schwartz

This is another one of the old time classics that has withstood the test of time. OK, so some of the words show some dating, but the concepts are still right on. I keep having this conversation with Lisa, you have to see it first in your mind. Then, it has a chance of materializing. Try it, you'll like it.

The R.E. Business Planning Guide

Carla Cross

One of the biggest mistakes Real Estate people make (and I've been watching for 20 years now) is the lack of a business plan. Yes, they are confusing the first time. But, even a bad business plan can be better than no business plan. It really does give you a platform to observe what you do and how you can change to become more efficient. This book will walk you through the process, step by step. Get this and use it. You will be really happy you did.

e-Listing and e-Selling Secrets

Terri Murphy

How can I say something here without sounding really negative? How's this: there really isn't much in print about how to take advantage of the internet in Real Estate sales. There is lots of stuff online, but not in print. If you believe (like we do) that the internet is going to be a cornerstone to this business, you should get this book. The book is a little lean, but enough to make it a worthwhile purchase.

First Things First

Steven Covey

I actually liked this book by Steven Covey a little better than the 7 Habits. He has some excellent things to say. There has been a flap recently about his personal views about some topics (was that politically correct enough?), but I think that is pretty easy to overlook. The material is good. And that's what makes it valuable to me.

The New Psycho-Cybernetics

Maxwell Maltz

The old Psycho Cybernetics was one of the groundbreaking books on self development. This is a giant among classic giants. I haven't read the new version, but it is now on my wish list. I hear it is nicely updated.

How To Win Friends And Influence People

Dale Carnage

Another one of the "must read" classics. There were 249 reviews at Amazon.com. I haven't seen that many before. I'm starting a re-read in a couple of months. And looking forward to it.

Customers For Life

Carl Sewell

This was recommended by a prominent member of RealTalk. I'll disagree with his praise. I resent when an Author spends less time writing a book than I spend reading it. Sewell is successful, no doubt about that. I just didn't find a lot of insight in this book.

The Einstein Factor

Win Winger

Richard Poe

If you are at all interested in developing your potential, you should definitely read this book. Many of the ideas are off the wall. But, they are effective. Highly recommended, if for no other reason, it will stretch your thinking.

Haven't read this one yet. It was highly recommended, so, it's in line.

The Psychology of Sales Call Reluctance

George Dudley

Shannon Goodson

WOW! I'm a "driver", so I overcome most roadblocks with will power. But, really, I don't much care for prospecting. And overcoming the reluctance with will power uses up a lot of energy. This book takes away that wasted energy. Now, I can do more (and make more money!!) with the same energy. After reading the book, I hired them for private consulting. Good move, very glad I did that and would recommend that also.

The DNA of Success

Jack Zufelt

Another "Success" book? I wasn't too excited to buy more of this genre, but thought I'd give it a chance. The book isn't that well written, but don't throw the good ideas out. There are some good techniques to help define your "core desires", something I continually find reasons to avoid.

Internet Marketing in Real Estate

Barbara Cox

If you are building your own website, you really need this book. I used it a lot in the development of this site. The only problem, a book about the internet can get old in days. There are some signs of aging already. Still, a valuable resource.

Business by Referral

Ivan Misner

Ivan Misner founded Business Networking International (BNI) almost 20 years ago. We've met him and he is very well spoken and a nice guy. We believe in running our "referrals" in a systematic fashion. This is a good primer on setting that up. He has several other books. I don't think there is enough difference to pursue all of them.

Endless Referrals

Bob Burg

This is considered "best of breed" for referral type books. I am reading it, but haven't finished it yet. I'll save my comments until I finish it. So...check back soon.

Learned Optimism

I just started this last night. WOW! So far, I love it. His writing style is for adults and the data is backed up by thought and research. This has jumped to the front of my current reading list.

The On-Purpose Person

Kevin McCarthy

This book was recommended reading by my coach. It is one of those "parable" type books. For whatever reason, these types of books leave me cold. The ideas were good, but the style is just to mushy for my taste. Maybe, your mileage will vary.

7 Habits Of Highly Effective People

Steven Covey

I read this a long time ago. It made a lot of sense. We've had our daughter (13 at the time) read the teenage version of the book and she also got lots of value. Any time Lisa challenges me on spending money for a new tool (toy?), I use one of the "Habits" to justify my case. It doesn't really help. Oh well.
This is a book about affirmations. Lisa likes it better than I do. I found the "science" missing. Psych of Sales Call Reluctance (above) worked on the same things, but had better science behind it.

The Richest Man in Babylon

George Clason

This is one of those classics that everyone says you HAVE to read. OK, so I did. It's a parable type of book, and as mentioned other places, these types leave me cold. The story is tight, with not a lot of fluff. So, if the parable type fits you, you'll enjoy it.

The Greatest Salesman in the World

Og Mandino

Anything Og is great! I could list all of his books here. His personal story is inspirational, to me at least. I feel like I know the man and am better for it.
